HOW TO FACE A KNIFE THREAT
Hello everyone! In this article I would like to present you how to face a threat with the knife.
In Krav Maga there are some basics and common knife attack and knife threats but in the street it could be different. With the common attack you can improve reflexes and the attitude to adapt yourself against the threat or the attack.
The important thing is to develop the capacity to adapt yourself to any situations. From my point of view this is the first key in Krav Maga!
I would like to focus on a very important point about the knife threat: on the neck, on the stomach, on the back… We have many techniques where we catch immediately the end of the arm of the opponent and then we strike. It could be a good solution but catching under pressure is not always easy…
Ask to your partner to apply normal reactions (take the arm back) when you grab/catch his arm: you will se you can’t finish the technique!
Do you know why? Because under pressure we use our reptilian brain that works only to protect our body and it allows us to do only simple movements.
For this reason, instead to catch immediately with precision the end of the arm of your opponent I would like to present you a variation in the knife threat: we call it “strike and catch”.
Let’s see how it works:
- An opponent threat you with the knife on the neck.
- First you have to strike his armed arm in order to remove the threat from your neck.
- With the other your arm grab the armed arm of your opponent in order to prevent him to take it back.
- Finish the technique in different ways.
You have seen if you strike the arm of your partner and grab it immediately, you can finish your technique in a safe mode! In both side of the threat: direct and reverse.
